An Explorative Study Regarding the Relations between the Light Triad of Personality, Organizational Citizenship Behavior, and Counterproductive Work Behavior

Abstract

The current research explores the relationship between the Light Triad of personality and employee organizational citizenship behaviour (OCB), additionally examining the relationship between the Light Triad of personality and counterproductive work behaviour (CWB). The study is based on a cross-sectional design, data being collected from 115 employees (25 males, 89 females), age between 18 and 49 years old (M=28.33, SD=10.14) through the following structured questionnaires: Light Triad Scale, Organizational Citizenship Behaviour Checklist and Counterproductive Work Behaviour Checklist. The results of the study suggest that the composite score of the Light Triad of personality negatively correlates with CWB total score (r=-.255, p<.01), both at individual level CWB-I (r=-.260, p<.01) and organizational level CWB-O (r=-.202, p<.01). Moreover, the study also finds that the composite score of the Light Triad of personality positively correlates with OCB total score (r=.283, p<.01), and with OCB-I (r=.268, p<.01) and OCB-O (r=.297, p<.01). Furthermore, the analysis on subdimensions of the selected constructs is presented. Practical implications of the recent study are discussed as well as some directions for future research in the area.
