The Importance of Interdisciplinary Work for Understanding Cultural Industries: A Study of the Editorial Industry of Manga in Argentina

Abstract

The cultural industry, concept created by Adorno and Horkheimer can be approached by multiple disciplines. Particularly, the study of the editorial industry focused on the study of an important editorial of manga in Argentina, necessarily requires the use of the disciplines of history: oral history, documental history, and economic history; bibliotechology, advocacy, economy, marketing and publishing, inter alia. The perspective of a multi-disciplinary approach was necessary for the study of the editorial success of the IVREA publishing house in Argentina between 1997 and 2017. The present work considers how the research around this editorial was developed to demonstrate why the different disciplines mentioned were necessary and what role each one played within said research.
