Lean in the Education System: An Innovative Approach to Improve Education

Abstract

Given the over 50.4 million K-12 American public school students and only 3.1 million teachers, educators face a seemingly impossible task: prepare a diverse group of students for the workforce using limited resources. As the education deficit continues to increase, the decline of the overall education budget is at the forefront of many minds. Lean continuous improvement concepts can be applied to the education system to reduce the need for additional financial resources. Applying lean concepts in the classroom will help educators to prepare students and eliminate unnecessary waste. This project takes a detailed look at the current education system and identifies areas for improvement by applying lean manufacturing concepts in the classroom.
