The Promise of Social Entrepreneurship : Development Theories Revisited

Abstract

The role of entrepreneurship in national development continues to be the focus of much attention and debate in academia today. This paper examines the intellectual development of social entrepreneurship and how it conceptualizes human dignity. In addition, through a comparative case-study methodology, the paper assesses the promise of this innovative idea in the process of national development. The paper concludes that while social entrepreneurship might achieve a dignified future for many families, specially the most deprived, it needs to depict a cohesive strategy to tie human development with macro economy policies to be considered a viable development strategy.
