The Menace of Inefficiency and Lack of Effectiveness in the Management of Public Organisations in Nigeria

Abstract

This paper discusses the menace of inefficiency and lack of effectiveness that have recently characterized the management of public organizations in Nigeria. This has been perceived as a function of the ideological orientation of Nigerians to bureaucracy which is usually characterized by hierarchy of offices and positions and these positions are occupied by incumbents. One is more irritated about the issue especially if one has the thorough understanding that public administration is concerned with the effective leadership and direction of public affairs to the accomplishment of desired objectives. This paper, therefore, analyses these concerns and make appropriate recommendations to improve the level of efficiency and effectiveness in the Nigerian bureaucracy and leadership. The researcher adopted documentary sources of data collection and oral interview in the course of the research.
