The Leadership Performance of Private School Administrators of Higher Education Institutions in Iligan City, Philippines

Abstract

Managing a school entails school organization and management qualities. This study focuses on the leadership performance of the school administrators emphasizing competencies, styles, and practices and how these affect their performance. A descriptive-correlational method was utilized to provide a context of understanding on the extent of leadership competencies style and practices of school administrators. Forty school administrators in Iligan City were the subject of this study. The leadership skills of school administrators are measured using ten indicators such as teamwork, sensitivity, judgment, leadership skills observer’s assessment, results and orientation, organizational ability, oral communication, written communication, developing others, and understanding own strengths and weaknesses. Teamwork, organizational ability, and oral communication, and judgment are among the top skills that school administrators’ possess. Leadership Styles are measured using indicators like a transformational leader, transactional leaders’ style, and passive-avoidant style. Most leaders are passive-avoidant. The leadership practices of the school administration in term of School-Based Management are measure using indicators like Policy and Planning System, Participatory Mechanisms in Education Governance, Human Resources, and Development of Education Management. Most school administrators are using a policy and planning system of management.
