How Parental Practices Influence the Health of Children in Rural Nigeria

Abstract

Child health is often a problem in rural South-western Nigeria. It has been argued that parents have greater impacts on the protection of their child. This paper looks at parental practice as it impacts health protection of their children in the rural South West, Nigeria. The study adopted a multimethod qualitative research design through the use of semi-structured interviews and participants observation with parents of children under the age of five in health care settings. Using thematic analysis, suggestions for understanding how parental practices influence the health of children will serve as a guide to understand similar settings and contribute to public practices.
