Water Governance and the Colonial Legacy in Zimbabwe

Abstract

Water Governance is a widely debated topic within the academic realm. In my research study, I explore the impacts of colonialism on the post-colonial state’s development with a focus on water resources in Zimbabwe. I analyze Zimbabwe’s water governance policies since the attainment of independence in 1980. Furthermore, I explore the colonial legacy which the newly independent government of Zimbabwe inherited. The overarching aims are to establish how the white settler economy influenced and, to an important degree, continues to influence the governance of water in Zimbabwe, and how the post-colonial state has governed water resources in Zimbabwe. My research tells a story of how the remnants of colonialism impacted post-colonial Zimbabwe. The research uses both qualitative and quantitative approaches in order to fully explore the topic.
