Abstract
The process of book selection for adoption in schools in Nigeria is decentralised. Each state has the prerogative to select books for use in its schools through a rigorous selection process. This is to ensure that quality and relevant books are used within the state. Stakeholders in the book industry commonly agree that materials for teaching and learning in schools should match the audiences’ interests and abilities, and relate to their lives. Unfortunately, states across Nigeria hardly consider this view about book adoption process. They seem to favour the big and influential publishers at the detriment of the quality of books submitted for assessment. This paper therefore investigates the book selection process in Nigeria and the warfare among book publishers in the process of selection.
