SEL and the Humanities: Using Literature to Instruct and Explore

Abstract

As Social Emotional Literacy becomes a mainstay in K-12 education, instructors can turn to the Humanities as a basis for learning regarding interpersonal and intrapersonal communication. This online presentation will emphasize the manner in which classic works of literature–The Epic of Gilgamesh, The Iliad, Oedipus Rex–remain relevant when used to instruct effective communication skills, concepts of vulnerability, and social awareness.
