Islamic Role Model of Developmental Politics: A Preliminary Analysis of Muhammadiyah and Al-Washliyah

Abstract

This paper reports a preliminary analysis of the role model of Islamic civil societies which are Muhammadiyah and Al-Washliyah, and their distinct formative politics on the developmental activities. The Muhammadiyah represents modern thought, while the Al-Washliyah is still keeping the conventional thought. Indeed, they are different in terms of developmental strategies, and essential considerations in policy making. The direction of development are clearly different as compared with the existing local government system which tends to be capitalistic and materialistic. Consequently, a number of poverty, criminality and moral degradation increase. On contrary, a lot of positive contributions have been given by the both of civil societies to improve the society’s welfare especially in education, health, and economic sectors. The fruitfulness of Islamic developmental policy has inspired the author to analyze a constructive role model of developmental politics that is alternative to the capitalistic one. It is noteworthy that the Islamic developmental politics could be applied as the role model of developmental politics towards a better future.
