A Developing Language in a Multilingual Environment: The Critical Cultural Studies of Anaang Language from a Metalinguistic Consideration

Abstract

This paper builds on the conception that Anaang, a developing language, can provide interconnectivity between communities and persons in the world as a global village thereby enabling people to utilize this global interconnectivity through cooperation and understanding in the study and appreciation of Anaang as a Developing Language (ADL). The globally appreciated interdependence of people, in the convergences of knowledge and machines in virtually all aspects of human concern is greatly powered by language use, especially, a language with a specialized register like the Anaang language that has a distributional equivalence with its English language counterpart. The fact that Anaang language is used by more people in Nigeria today; even with more research interest than it was before, calls for a reappraisal of its status and structure as a metalanguage and syntax-related variations. A number of syntax-related variants in Anaang native words, borrowing, loaned, and new creations have been identified by scholars and there is a consensus that these properties are not easily extricated from the syntactic devices of the background dialectical variation, therefore, has a cultural affinity and values, one of which is the conclusion that the variants do not affect or disturb communication and intelligibility of the language in its own right, in line with the world 4.0: convergences of knowledge and machines.
