Abstract
The paper analyses the issues and factors which gave rise to conflicts in Balochistan province of Pakistan, ultimately leading towards the insurgencies in the region and resulting into the present day human rights crisis in Balochistan. Insurgency in Balochistan, is a form of guerilla war, that is waged by Baloch nationalists against the government of Pakistan to fulfill their demand of autonomy and freedom in the region. Baloch separatists have been carrying out attacks on armed forces form different pockets of the province. Whereas, the armed forces suppress the movement by committing atrocities on the Balochs to gain control over the province by all means. The main reason of the conflict in the region is the rich natural and renewable resources that the region possesses. Balochistan has been in the state of confrontation with Pakistan since 1948. This is because the majority of the Baloch consider that the Pakistani state annexed their land forcibly, against the will and desire of the people. The Baloch nationalists have never accepted this annexation, and as a result the region has been facing serious crisis erupted by various factors. In order to have a comprehensive understanding and consider solutions, it is necessary to study the conflict across social, political, and economic factors.
