Abstract
This paper evaluates the patterns of discrimination towards the transgender community in Pakistan and quantifies the impact on the social and economic status of the community. Due to lack of economic opportunities, there is the non-voluntary tilt of towards social isolation. District level data has been collected through face-to-face in-depth interviews based on 14 questions from 87 volunteer respondents. Snowball sampling method was adopted for the survey. TOBIT model was employed to perform the empirical analysis and capture the impact of socioeconomic status on discrimination. Education and income are considered as economic factors and social wellbeing as social variable explaining discrimination. The results depict the significantly adverse effects of discrimination. Findings infer the need to make legislation to overcome the discrimination toward this community and provision of equal rights both in the field of education and occupations to increase the socioeconomic status of the transgender population in Pakistan.
