Abstract
Nigeria does not rank in the top twenty-seven countries that have the most cows; yet, the herdsmen portend the highest threat to life, economy, and security of the nation. This study is geared towards finding solutions or new directions to the problem. Qualitative and quantitative approaches were employed to elicit responses from the respondents on who the Fulani herdsmen are and their activities regarding the environment, farmland, and the country’s economy. The population of the study was made up of all the 101 respondents from the environment of Kogi West, Nigeria. Data were analyzed using Mean with Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS Version 20.0). Analyses obtained were used to provide answers to the research questions, with benchmark of 3.0 for the study. Results revealed that Fulani herdsmen pose a threat to the economy and security of Nigeria and possible solutions and a new direction forward are proffered.
