Word "Love" and Its Social and Cultural Elements in Literary Works

Abstract

The subject of “love” has been considered with different views in different poetic styles. Indian style of poetry is not exceptional. Poets such as Saeb Tabrizi, Bidel Dehlavi, Kalim Kashani, Mohtasham, etc. have always considered love as an important matter. The social and cultural analysis of love and its dependent components in Saeb Tabrizi’s divan (poetry book) has been considered in this paper. The study is a library method of investigation, with descriptive-analytical methodology, and regarding the aims, it is a fundamental research. Since the present study is done in library method, the tool for collecting the data was by taking notes. No doubt, the concept of love in the poetry book of Saeb, who is one of the most prolific poets in the history of literature in Iran in general, and in Indian style of poetry in particular. It is a prominent and extensive concept together with socio-cultural components from the Iranian Islamic culture that could not be easily ignored. Hence, the lover of his poetry should be a knowledgeable, wise, uniform, honest, joyous, devotee, justified, patient person, rendered by the providence, away from desires and against hypocrisy and selfishness. Clearly, the consequence of this research could have some effects in the conception and etymology of Saeb’s thoughts regarding the concept of love. The results may be useful to facilitate informing about some existing verses of Saeb’s divan.
