Explaining the Visual Capabilities of Contemporary Iranian Typography: Case Study - Reza Abedini

Abstract

This paper presents the study of typographic visual capabilities of Reza Abedini’s works and especially explains the visual capabilities of his works based on the components of contemporary art. Also, the emphasis on the works of this artist with regard to the aesthetic aspects and typographic visual capabilities, in line with the thoughts of contemporary art in creating a creative work in this field, which has an artistic function, is intended by the author. The research method is descriptive and content analysis, and the data collection process is based on documentary and library methods. The question under study in this research is as follows: How can the graphical capabilities of typography in the works of Reza Abedini be explained based on the components of contemporary art? Typography in Reza Abedini’s works is based on some structural components of contemporary art and has an excellent expressive quality, and is also in harmony with some features of contemporary aesthetics. The research results show that Reza Abedini, in typography, has been able to express the Iranian composition in the form of using the rules and components of contemporary art. His atmospheres seem to be in line with the pieces of contemporary art and postmodernism thought, but, at the same time, the spirit within his works connects us to Iranian Islamic traditions.
