Yarning about Indigenous Design View Digital Media

Workshop Presentation
Adam Manning

This talking circle provides an example of praxis in the field of Indigenous urban design within a context of a digital yarning circle. An Indigenous yarning circle is where culturally important conversations take place within a respectful setting. Our talking circle (digital yarning circle) will follow this tradition and discuss the importance of surfacing these kinds of Indigenous spaces in the contemporary cityscape. The key case study is an example of a Newcastle Indigenous urban design project which constructed small-scale yarning spaces. To understand the project, participants will observe a short video that explains the Newcastle project, then encouraged to digitally yarn, make a comment and provide feedback, as a means to contributing to the emerging space of Indigenous design.
