Pang Mapha : Jewelry from 'Pi Man,' Wood Caskets, and Death Rituals from Past to A New Deal of Era

Abstract

This project aims to disseminate knowledge and essence of the aesthetics of living in harmony and appreciation of ancestors and nature. The feelings are expressed through jewelry which has been widely used since the ancient days. Pre-historic to modern day humans have close and personal relationships with jewelry, in a similar way they do with clothes. The items have decorative, ritualistic, and moral values. The use of jewelry is found in every culture from the pre-historic period. This allows today’s people to learn about aesthetic and wisdom related to objects with auspicious or sacred values. It also shows high level of craftsmanship which indicates that the jewelry is created for people with high social status. As beliefs and values have changed, we consider the value the jewelry with a contemporary perspective.
