Post Occupancy Evaluation of Classrooms in Hussaini Adamu Federal Polytechnic, Kazaure Nigeria

Abstract

Classrooms are one of the key essential spaces provided at every tier in our educational hierarchy. The Polytechnic receives huge sum of money within the last three years for the purpose of construction of classrooms. Classrooms need to be build in such a way that they will last longer, be more efficient, and less harmful to the environment. The purpose of this study is to find out whether spatial characteristics affects students’/occupants’ work performance and satisfaction. The study therefore adopts the existing post occupancy evaluation (POE) models in use, which are highly quantitative in nature, placing considerable reliance on questionnaires. The study employs questionnaires, focus groups, interviews, and expert walkthrough/observation. It was observed that there is no knowledge concerning POE in Polytechnic. The POE model used for the study is the Association of University Directors of Estate (AUDE) model. This is because it has originally been created to specifically feature the range of component parts commensurate with all the higher educational institution. The study revealed that physical and internal environmental factors, influence user satisfaction in varying patterns and with varying levels of impact and in differing situations. The study concluded that there is the need to develop a framework for a routing conduct of POE processes in the Polytechnic.
