Abstract
Dong Ho folk painting is a form of Vietnamese folk paintings that originated from Dong Ho village, Bac Ninh province. They usually portray Vietnamese folk allegories, historical figures and everyday life activities to express the thoughts and wishes of people. The Ministry of Culture, the authorities of Bac Ninh province in Vietnam, and specialized agencies have compiled a dossier to seek recognition for Dong Ho folk painting as an UNESCO intangible cultural heritage. Regrettably, Dong Ho folk painting is in need of urgent safeguarding. This paper examines ways in which a proportion of the youth are currently preserving and promoting Dong Ho folk painting. The youth are most detached from this traditional art form, and to protect the continuity of this art form, it is vital to start with the youth. Young people, with their initiative and creativity, are capable of incorporating Dong Ho folk painting in to modern life and invent long-lasting methods to preserve this art form.
