Conceptual Framework to Develop Accessible Products

Abstract

Universal design and frugal innovation both are equally important to fulfill the needs of the people in resource-limited societies. In recent years, many design research and methods have been carried out in the context of social justice and ecosystems. We realized that design facilitated by frugality actuates and contributes towards economical designs which can be user at the base of the pyramid. Frugal innovation, in conjunction and combination with universal design, has the ability to encourage social justice and design for all. This work presents a conceptual framework for developing accessible products. Integration of frugal design with universal design can produce cost-effective products with the help of Frugal Universal Design solution (FUDS) principles. To provide affordability, inclusive growth and lifting people at the bottom of the pyramid are the primary aims of the FUDS principles.
