A Framework for Exploring the Associations Between Design Factors of Community Public Green Space and Visitors' Behaviors

Abstract

Community public green space is a place that residents frequently use. They play an vital role in improving the quality of life of urban residents in contemporary Chinese cities. This paper proposes a research framework that helps researchers explore the relationship between environmental factors and human spatio-temporal behavior in the setting of small-scale community public green space. This framework consists of several key components: 1) it collects data on visitors’ spatio-temporal behavior in small public green spaces around the community through behavior observation; 2) it applies geographic statistical methods, including geospatial analysis tools and spatial statistical models to explore the spatio-temporal patterns of visitors’ behavior in public green spaces; 3) it analyzes the associations between visitors’ distribution and the design factors of public green spaces and clarifies the mechanism how these factors affect the behavior of visitors. The research provides a theoretical basis for further understanding visitors’ preference of community public green space and assisting designers with future design practice.
