Abstract
Anglo-Saxon authors find it difficult to study cultural nuclei that are less permeable to (or less exposed to) their culture, even when there is some bibliography translated into English. The recent World History of Design confirms the difficulty in accessing reference bibliography written in Portuguese and in identifying the most important titles: Victor Margolin (b.1941) cites just three studies, of which one meets the requirements demanded of scientific work in the field of history. This article maps the authors on design history in Portugal, their methodological approaches and essential writings on the topic. It also discusses the teaching of design history on design courses at the three levels of higher education at ten Portuguese public universities.
