Abstract
Building a bicycle from scratch is a multidisciplinary experience - an exciting fabrication process involving art and science, combining design and engineering to create a unique bond between the machine and rider. The project aims to reinvent the way bicycle frames are fabricated and to demonstrate the linkage of open source technologies in a ‘Do It Yourself’ culture. Bicycles are conceived as a straightforward object with a much-defined form and functionality, on the macro level. It is true considering the efficiency and simplicity embedded in the minimal almost transparent construction, a feasible interface attaching the rider and the road which achieved with no more than few profiles connected. On the micro level is a different story. Each frame reveals the way it is made, for whom, with which materials, for what aim, and above all, under what circumstances, it was formed. The frame story is about unfolding behind the scenes, in search of a process. The frames was created as a part of a long-term design research. After eight years, twenty-one frames and thousands of kilometers, it is time, to sum up the results. For more information, please visit https://www.frame-story.com
