Abstract
The design of National Assembly at Dhaka started even before the birth of Bangladesh. At that time Bangladesh was known as East Pakistan and Louis I Kahn had been commissioned to design a second parliament. After the liberation war, the masterpiece become the icon for the newly born democratic county. This paper aims to search Louis I. Kahn’s perception regarding democracy and manifested his understandings through his masterpiece. This study endeavors to search Kahn’s thinking behind the design as alternative explanations behind this building were given by many people. The analysis is based on a literature survey and survey by questionnaire - interviews of users. Thus this paper attempts to clarify issues surrounding established myths in terms of the successful translation of democracy through this unique masterpiece of Kahn.
