Abstract
Baluchi Embroidery is one of the Iranian arts divided into various motives, forms, and colors. This art is practically used in Iranians’ daily life. Some motives could be regarded as the representation of symbols showing the truth of creation. Despite the global appreciation for this art, no independent study has been conducted to trace its origin and assess its motives, colors, and shapes. Thus, the present study aimed to investigate the patterns, shapes, and colors of baluch embroidery through answering the following questions: 1. What are the meanings of Baluchi needle working motives? 2. How do motives and colors impact Baluchi embroidery? In order for answering these questions, a descriptive-analytic method was applied. Baluchi embroidery was divided into six categories of Ayene-duzi, Zari-duzi, Par-duzi, Ru-duzi, Pit-duzi, Graph-duzi, and Polizar-duzi in the present study. In addition, it was categorized by pattern into natural (herbal & animal), abstract and geometric. The achieved findings indicated Iranian mythical rituals, besides ethnic and religious beliefs, as the origins of baluchi embroidery.
