A Study of Immersion Evaluation Factors of Users on Online Reality Space

Abstract

Recently, online reality (VR) came to the fore in the field of information communication technology. The technology is developing rapidly, moreover the contents interlocking VR devices, PCs, and smartphones are increasing. The most important element on these contents is the immersion. However, there are few studies which focus on the factors to increase immersion. Hence this study aims to figure out the factors which are needed to improve the immersion for users. This study focuses on the factors to evaluate the immersion on online reality space. In this study we consider the factors needed to evaluate the immersion. Moreover, we provide standard factors to help evaluate and improve immersion. The method of the study is as follows. First, investigate the meaning of VR and immersion from the preceding studies. Second, search the immersion factors from preceding studies and arrange each factor by characteristics and discover the things in common. Third, extract the common factors and reestablish the factors that are needed for immersion. As a result, there were some differences on classifying the factors of immersion. Through the extracting procedure we categorize the characteristics of immersion into new standards. This study presents a standard for evaluating immersion in VR spaces for users. It is expected that it will serve as a reference point for improving the immersion of VR environments.
