An Evaluation of Aesthetic Control Approaches from International Perspective

Abstract

Nowadays, cities increasingly resemble each other and their own unique identity and culture are gradually disappearing. Therefore, this situation shows the significance of aesthetic control. The main purpose of the paper is to evaluate the aesthetic control approaches within urban planning system and design practices of the selected country examples and to compare each other. There are different types of esthetic control that include from more conceptual to non-conceptual one in the planning practice of the selected countries. The findings demonstrate that some countries like the Netherlands and United Kingdom have followed more conceptual aesthetic design and planning, however, Turkey has not it. This method can be the guidance and recommendation for reaching more aesthetic urban design and planning. At the same time this can provide an important input for managing urban aesthetic in planning practice.
