Tamsin: Creation a Letter Design, which has Beauty, Form, Function and Diversity

Abstract

Text is a coherent set of visuals that transmits some kind of information and has always played an important role in communication. Typography should complement the purpose of the sign (informing, directing, or promoting) and be legible and readable even at a reasonable distance. This paper discusses how typography plays an important role in communication and why a fusion font (display font) can be considered better as an initial proposal for the same (fusion of Tamil, Sinhalese and Humanistic script). The inspiration for writing this paper came to my mind while I was travelling in Sri Lanka. During my stay there, I decided to create the entire fusion font family (Tamsin). This Fusion font would give travellers a feeling of belongingness as they can read it and at the same time experience the local script through its appearance. The fusion display font (fusion of Sinhalese and Tamil script ) is proposed for Sri Lanka. Similar approaches can be used for other countries. It can also be used for various designing requirements such as signage, captions, and identity design.
