Geometric Art from Nature to Contemporary

Abstract

Geometry is one of the important ancient sciences, such that Plato considered it essential for acquiring knowledge. There are several kinds of arts have utilized it, especially architecture, and it is based on the geometric calculus. Origami is one of the ways for creating works of art, which is manifested through geometry. It inspires nature in contemporary art. Geometric art has led to the creation of ornament art. There are varied and sometimes similar kinds of ornaments in art which originate from the geometric science, geometric division and regularity, and also repetition of the main pattern. In the paper, we discussed the similarities of the geometric forms in Origami and Islamic art through descriptive-analytic method. In order to achieve this goal, a literature review was conducted by researching in Islamic pictorial sources and geometry in Origami Art. The results indicate that there are significant similarities between pictorial Origami and Islamic art.
