Abstract
The field of service design has the ability to enrich and reframe design education in robust, meaningful ways. The paper presents a distinction between education (a top-down approach) versus learning (a bottom-up approach) and explores how service design can be used as a vehicle to educate reflective practitioners. This paper will provide a framework for educators to re-evaluate courses and curriculum based on models of service design and Donald Schon’s notion of reflective practice, as well as provide evidence of the efficacy of this approach through a case study.
