Investigating the Relationship Between the Patterns of Iranian Traditional Houses Compared to Modern Houses

Abstract

The home is a safe and relaxing shelter of the most basic issues that humans face and we look for rational and appropriate solutions to supply it. Maintaining the respect of the family and paying attention to the principle of confidentiality is one of the most prominent manifestations of religious and cultural principles in Iranian architecture. In the design of residential buildings, no aristocracy of neighbors is noticed to the inhabitants. At the same time, on the entrance to the house, there are different pillows, a gender marker. The formation of outer and outer spaces, the design of the hierarchy of space, the embedding of the space called the vestibule at the entrance to the houses and the impossibility of the interior view of the house at the entrance, is the effect of this architecture. House spaces are not based on performance. Depending on the spatial and dimensional characteristics, they have embraced various activities at different hours of the day or at the same time, while also maintaining the capability of expanding. Space in the Iranian house architecture is not the only response to a particular function and provides a set of needs simultaneously. Iranian houses have several specific features that set them apart including: width and plurality; order and irregularity; uniformity; centrality; uncertainty and balance; equilibrium; variety; coordination with nature; privilege and confidentiality; avoiding extravagance ; multi-functionality of spaces and elements; privacy.
