The Procedure of Using Natural Ventilation in the Traditional Architecture of Buildings in Iran

Abstract

In this research, how to implement natural ventilation with regard to the traditional architecture of Iran has been investigated for this purpose, first, the new architecture and the dominant elements used in it were identified. Different methods for natural ventilation by using these elements can be applied, but for providing a useful proposal for this purpose, different standards and considerations of design are considered that they caused are limited the number of natural ventilation methods. For an analysis of the proposed designs, the loop method has been used. By using loop method and also attention to the operational limitations extracted, several methods including ventilation with ceiling light, ventilation with vertical channels, The Combined System by Duct and Staircase, and atrium ventilation were investigated. The results of this study indicate that the size of the openings had a high and low limit, in another wordS, an increase in the area of the air inlet would finitely have increased the air ventilation rate or the decrease in the size of the opening from a certain amount would strongly reduce The rate of ventilation, also, the effect of building orientation and use wind power as a propulsion factor along with the stack effect has been investigated. The results show increasing of 50 percent on the ventilation rate if using the proper orientation of the building for use wind power. In the end, the method used was validated with the BS5925 and ASHRAE standards.
