Domestic-International Politics Interplay and Immigration Policy Making: A Case/Comparative Study

Abstract

As is regarded both as public policy and foreign policy, immigration policy is affected because of domestic politics and international politics, and it has an impact on domestic politics and international politics. Accordingly, immigration policy making interplays between domestic politics and international politics with a crucial role regarding the outcome of a specific immigration policy. Based on such a theoretical argument, this paper analyzes three cases from the perspective of domestic-international politics interplay in immigration policy making, namely, the case of the U.S. Mexican American immigration policy making, the case of Indonesia’s ethnic Chinese policy making, and the case of the EU refugee policy making in the refugee crisis 2015 and in 2022. In the end, this paper conducts a comparative study in the above-mentioned three immigration policy-making cases.
