Has Bacille Calmette-Guerin Reduced the Mortality Rate from COVID in Sub-Saharan Africa and Oceana? : Lowering the Death Rate in Developing Countries

Abstract

In this paper, the author considers how age, morbidity, health infrastructure, genetics, climate, and BCG (Bacille Calmette-Guerin) affect the COVID mortality rates by region. She argues via statistics that universal mandated BCG immunization for infants and children in Africa and Oceana, as well as their young population population, may explain the low COVID mortality regardless of the existence of non-communicable diseases as leading causes of mortality pre-pandemic. The author contends that BCG may have some mitigating effect, but more research is necessary.
