Team Leadership in Geographically Dispersed Teams: How to Leverage the Advantages of a Multinational Team across Distance and Time

Abstract

This paper analyses five case studies on the leadership of geographically dispersed teams across national cultures within a multinational company. The aim is to have a first approach towards effective practices and difficulties team leaders face when their team members present different cultural backgrounds and are located in different time zones. Through the comparison of this case studies with traditional cross-cultural team leadership models, we extract the first basis for a best practices approach that allows companies to efficiently manage the advantages of such team constellations and prevent or solve the problematics that arise.
