Manizales - Sustainability in Business Administration in Colombia

Abstract

Serious problems affect the world in all aspects from geopolitical tensions, trade wars, displacements and migratory movements, the unequal distribution of wealth, youth unemployment, malnutrition and poverty, the increasing environmental impact manifested in the destruction of water sources, pollution of rivers and oceans, increasing emission of greenhouse gases, accelerated disappearance of species of flora and fauna - in brief there are innumerable situations that should generate comprehensive efforts in the solution of these problems framed in sustainability. The solutions to these problems must be holistic and systematic, being one of them a fundamental application, education at all levels of training. Specifically, education plays a very important role, since it must develop knowledge for sustainability. Business administration faces new challenges related to the digitalization of the economy and trade, the development of soft skills, alignments to management 4.0 and alignment with the objectives for sustainable development. Higher education institutions (HEI) must be protagonists in the construction of models that facilitate the transition towards sustainable societies given their formative nature of different professional profiles, specifically in the management of companies, and must incorporate a strengthened way in the sustainability dimension, fostering a curriculum relevant to environmental issues, promoting research that provides answers to these problems and is aligned with an institutional policy of sustainability, favouring a university-sustainability relationship based on critical thinking for higher education.
