Abstract
Globalization as a powerful and dynamic phenomenon has been responsible for the intensification of economic, social, cultural, and political interconnectedness across the globe. While the effects of globalization in many world regions are widely known, Africa’s experiences with globalization to a large extent remain hidden to many. Exploring the experiences of Africans and African states in our rapidly globalizing world offers new and refreshing insights on the interplay between colonialism, culture, capitalism, and development. This paper utilizes a critical multi-modal discourse analysis of the Black Panther movie to highlight Africa’s multi-phased experiences with historical and contemporary globalization.
