Dreaming of Frankenstein: Transhumanist Semiotics

Abstract

Transhumanism has been an idea that has accompanied the human sense of perfection since antiquity. Currently converted into an ideology with philosophical imprint, it has permeated the field of action of the natural and social sciences to the point of manifesting itself under the perspective of an activism that is gaining more and more followers; proof of this has been the defense of American scientists such as Nick Bostrom and Ray Kurzweil - founder of the University of the Singularity. Even popular culture has led to the emergence of controversial debates that make the issue an issue for everyone not only because of its imminence but also because of the ambiguity of the information that is disseminated. The paper aims to review the treatment of some transhumanist symbols and signs taken from mythological, artistic, historical and anthropological references to construct narratives of power enthroned in contemporary popular culture, as well as to question the risk of a decontextualized hermeneutics.
