Abstract
In the twenty-first century, the domination of knowledge is regarded as the engine of multiple aspects of life. From an economic point of view, knowledge is the foremost variable that affects the pace at which economies grow. Various models have emerged to mandate the place of innovation, specifically and knowledge, generally, at national and international levels. For example, the triple, quadruple, and quintuple helix model stresses the role of interactive innovation between heterogeneous actors to produce, use, and disseminate knowledge. Emerging and developing countries try to fill the knowledge gap in order to provide necessary and updated goods for their population. In this regard, many of south-east Asian economies and ex-Soviet states have succeeded in establishing knowledge economies. Other countries like Algeria should review their overall strategies since fewer incentives handicap the establishment of a knowledge-based society. This paper investigates the state of the knowledge economy in Algeria including considering variables that hamper its adoption.
