Residential Mobility in Indonesia

Abstract

Residential mobility creates urban regeneration. Mixed population with various backgrounds and life stages accumulate in a city and generate a new generation. Residential mobility likewise connects with the human life cycle and family composition. For example, individual and family characteristics, aging households, marital status, and family size expansion are reasons for some households to consider moving out of their current house to better fulfill their needs and welfare; and the inhabitants’ housing profiles such as homeownership and housing type. This study analyzes the people-housing movement. Residential mobility also is known as in city migration, which describes how many times people move homes through their old age. This research includes families of various economic status and analyzing factors relating to their life cycle course and housing profiles. This research was conducted by interviewing respondents selected from households in Bandung City. Regression analysis method is used to determine the factors that affect desires to move or not to move.
