Poverty Amongst Vulnerable Groups: A Case Study Of India

Abstract

India has a deep caste and gender fractures in its society. India holds enormous diversity in languages cultural ethnicities, castes, gender crafts and economies. The government believes that resource allocation, proper implementation of social schemes will address poverty issues only if inequality is tackled Inequality exists in India and there are many groups that are more vulnerable to poverty . Sometimes each group faces multiple barriers due to their multiple identities. For example, in a patriarchal society, disabled women face double discrimination of being a women and being disabled. The overall development objective of this research shall be to look into Poverty Alleviation for Vulnerable Groups and find whether the adverse effects of economic transition in India on these groups have been mitigated. The study shall be confined to vulnerable groups of Women, Children, Disabled and socially backward. The present research shall look into factors of discrimination in India, like structural factors, age, disability etc. It shall also look into the needs of different vulnerable groups, legislative provisions and schemes and analyse and suggest suitable methods for efficacy. The research would revolve around the argument /idea that economic benefits are not divided equitably amongst all classe and economic and social discrimination exists inspite of legislation and schemes of poverty alleviation. The research methodology would be mainly doctrinal or secondary empirical. The research would be substantially based on the data available and collected from government schemes and legislative reforms to alleviate poverty and promote development of vulnerable groups.
