Game-Based Approach Towards Responsible Consumption Among Preschool Students

Abstract

Game-based learning is designed to link subject matter to the real world. Within an effective game-based learning environment, we work toward a goal, choosing actions and experiencing the consequences of those actions along the way. According to an EdTech review in 2013, good game-based learning applications can draw us into online environments that look and feel familiar and relevant. It was also stated that people make mistakes in a risk free setting and, through experimentation, they actively learn and practice the right way to do things. This keeps us highly engaged in practicing behavior and thought processes that we can easily transfer from the simulated environment to real life. This action research incorporated interviews with Grade School and Preschool teachers of Lorma Colleges Basic Education Schools. The researchers came up with an action plan to address Sustainable Development Goal 12: Responsible Consumption and Production through interactive games. The research involves a board game that can be given the preschool students of lorma San Juan to provide a good foundation in values of responsibility as well as awareness in consumption, production, and preservation. Through said program, preschool students, young as they are, are now exposed the idea that food consumption plays a significant impact on sustainability. Education should not only be directed at knowing life skills, but integrating problem-solving skills as well.
