Trust Deficit and Big Brother Syndrome in South Asia

Abstract

South Asia is one of the least developed regions in the world largely because of several inter/intra-state conflicts in the region. The major inter-state conflicts in the region are between India and its neighbours because of trust-deficit and geo-centric location. Although, the most powerful country in the region is India surrounded by weaker neighbours who are always vulnerable to India’s position. They accuse India of acting as the big brother who interferes in their internal affairs. Whereas, India justifies its exercise of power in the name of security and stability in the region. In the light of such complexity of security, stability, and status, the paper is an attempt to theorize India’s position and neighbours’ perceptions of regional politics.
