The Senegalese Diaspora as Agent of Co-development: The Role of Senegalese Migration in Development's Processes

Abstract

Migrant diaspora is a theoretical concept used in the analysis of migration studies. This paper describes the role of diasporas as agents of human and social development, specifically in Italy and Senegal. For this scope it will be necessary to study in general the performance of Italian cooperation to development in Senegal that realizes projects of development in collaboration with associations of Senegalese immigrants. Particularly interesting has been the success of an initiative named PLASEPRI. The paper will introduce the results and the evaluation of this project asa case study and model of best practices. The PLASEPRI initiative has been implemented in two editions and it has inspired similar programs financed by European cooperation.
