Global Online Connection: Inequality in the Classroom

Abstract

Globalization and education has been a big draw in higher education and I will discuss how I conducted a pilot program with students connecting with other students globally to show how globalization has challenges and deep problems with inequality. The paper addresses how to empower young people to establish more effective, cooperative, and compassionate relations within and between their societies by providing high quality global education that combines the power of dialogue and demonstrating the inequalities using the reach of new media technologies. How can we do this and why is it important? I will show how in my classes on religion, holocaust, Muslims, and America I was able to deal with the challenges of the twenty-first century that demand multilateral solutions. It is critical that the next generation build the skills and attitudes they need to collaboratively address these challenges especially when they can see how inequality works in different parts of the world.
