Issues and Challenges Faced by International Students

Abstract

As the world become more globalized, there is increased demand for international education, which has led to an increasing influx of international students in the USA. On the other hand, institutions are also promoting international student applications with the goal of increasing diversity and global awareness in colleges and universities. In that process, host institution needs to adjust their programs to accommodate international students. On the other hand, international student faces various adjustment issues which are sometimes diverse and location specific. This study addresses the diverse adjustment issues and challenges faced by international students. In addition, the research also explores international students’ perception of local community’s acceptance of them, and the quality of programs offered in a small public liberal arts college in Mid-Atlantic region. The research findings were than shared with the office of international students to better facilitate the international student programming on campus and a broader issue of diversity and acceptance within the region.
