Islamophobia and Globalization: A Critical Analysis of Effects

Abstract

The process of globalization is having a significant impact on the world, and this includes the spread of the Islamic faith and its ideological foundations. However, the current trend of globalization is driven by the desire to dominate competing ideologies, including political Islam, through means such as the promotion of democracy, technology, and consumerism. Despite these efforts, globalization is struggling to effectively address the challenges posed by Islamic ideology, and is exposing its weaknesses. The core tenets of the globalization discourse are in conflict with the political Islam narrative, and the goal of the globalization discourse is to alter the political Islam discourse’s ideals through its own system of meaning. One of the most visible outcomes of this effort is the growth of Islamophobia. This study used a documentary technique to gather data and applied a critical discourse analysis method to analyze the data. The theoretical framework of the research was influenced by critical and postmodern thinking theories.
