Understanding Social Power Dynamics: Exploring Dominance, Stereotyping, and Group Dynamics

Abstract

Social hierarchy is a fundamental aspect of human society that shapes our interactions and relationships with others. This presentation aims to provide participants with a comprehensive understanding of the concept of social group hierarchy, its foundation in psychology, and how it leads to prejudice and bias. The presentation begins with an exploration of the historical and social roots of social hierarchy and dominance and how they have been perpetuated in our society. We examine the psychological mechanisms that underlie the formation of social groups and their impact on our perceptions and behaviors. Moving on from this, we delve into the ways in which social hierarchy and dominance manifest in our lives, from the workplace to the classroom to our personal relationships.
